During filming many movies, NEXUS Canada saw the demand and need for realistic guns, but without the very real dangers of live chambered weapons and the sometimes not affordable wrangler fees that can easily hit $500.00 per day. If realistic weapons and realistic action is important as well as safety for the production and the actors, and muzzle flash can be created in post-production and you would like to save thousands of dollars, then please read on!

About our weapons

Until now, there were only two options - safe weapons (props) or live weapons. So we are clear, a safe weapon (prop) is a plastic mold or foam creation used as a prop - it does nothing. Live weapons are real guns that chamber real shells and can create real dangers and cost real big money. NEXUS Canada is out to change that. All of our weapons are exact 1:1 replicas. Both in size, weight and action. They fire and have real blow back action on the slides exactly like a real weapon. For audible que`s, they go bang - although not as loud as a real weapon. Triggers, hammers and slides all operate as if a real weapon. Some even have full sized clips that drop out from the grip just like a real weapon. In person, there is really no telling the difference, so on camera it's impossible. They make amazing prop weapons and safe, realistic firing weapons. The only thing these guns can't do is produce muzzle flash.

The Muzzle Flash Solution

With technology advancing the way it is, motion tracking and post-production software is readily available to almost anyone. It is simple to use, inexpensive and extremely high quality. So, the question is, do you really need live weapons? Let's compare the two!

On-set firing Comparison

Live Weapons - To achieve muzzle flash you must fire a blank. To fire a blank you need a live weapon. To fire a live weapon you need a weapon wrangler. To have live weapons and wranglers you need lots of money. A blank will cost an average of 40 cents each. Some can cost as much as $1.00 depending on the company and type of weapon.

NEXUS Canada's weapons do not fire blanks and therefore do not produce muzzle flash. They fire a cartridge which exhausts a harmless gas. Each cartridge will provide 40 implied rounds - or shots. One cartridge costs 80 cents. Granted you will need to motion track muzzle flash in post, but lets look a the reality of it.

Q. Do these weapons look and feel real?

A. Yes, all the weapons are exact replicas, on 1:1 scales, weight, size and action.

Q. Can the weapons be cocked like a real gun?

A. Yes, the weapons can be cocked like a real gun. The slides move to cock the weapon.

Q. Do the guns fire?

A. Yes, the guns fire and they are rather loud. When they fire, they operate like a real gun and the slide will cycle (blow back) automatically re-cocking the gun in both single and double action weapons.

Q. When do I need handlers and/or PDO (Pay duty officer)?

A. You will need a handler when the weapon is being fired at someone and/or used in public.PDO is required on all outdoor scenes with weapons, firing or otherwise. For private locations such as warehouses, check with local law enforcement for their policy on this matter.

Q. What if I am not firing the weapon and I am not using it in public?

A. You can simply rent any weapon. The weapon will be incapable of firing.

Q. I am located outside of Ontario; can I still rent these guns?

A. Yes. A shipping charge applies to transport them to you and return them to us. This shipping charge is small.

Q. I need more than one gun or for a term longer than 3 days. Do I get a package deal or discount?

A. Yes. If you are renting more than one gun or a term rental longer than 3 days, we will give you a package deal and discount.
